Cinematographer
Carlos García Buenaventura is a London-based cinematographer originally from Spain, with over a decade of experience crafting visually compelling stories across commercials, narrative projects, and music videos.
Carlos’ love for filmmaking began early, shaped by growing up on a steady diet of classic 80s and 90s cinema. After picking up a camera in his teens, he quickly realised he wanted to spend his life creating images and telling the kinds of stories that moved him as a child. He first completed a degree in film theory, building a strong conceptual foundation that deepened his understanding of story, visual language, and audience psychology. He then pursued a second degree in Film and Digital Cinematography at the Met Film School in London, where he trained under renowned cinematographers such as Nick Morris BSC and Robin Vidgeon BSC—an experience that refined his craft and shaped his professional discipline.
Carlos went on to shoot documentaries and branded content around the world. Working extensively with natural light during these years profoundly influenced his approach. During this period, he also collaborated with major global brands such as the NBA, filming events across multiple continents—including the All-Star Game in the US and youth development camps in Cairo. His versatility is reflected in his work for companies as varied as Quickteller, Africa’s leading payment and transfer app, and Mettler Toledo, a global supplier of precision instruments.
Carlos recently shot his first feature film, directed by Roland Manookian—marking the feature debut for both of them. Roland, coming from a long and respected acting career, brought a grounded and performance-driven approach that shaped the film’s tone and energy. The project allowed Carlos to collaborate with an exceptional cast, including Geoff Bell and Craig Fairbrass, whose experience and presence elevated the story. The film is set for release on prominent streaming platforms, marking an exciting new chapter in his narrative work.
Now focused on the more deliberate worlds of commercial and narrative filmmaking, Carlos has shot a wide range of projects, including award-winning global brand campaigns for iRobot and Häagen-Dazs. His work on the action short Haste earned Best Short Film at the Fighting Spirit International Film Festival, further showcasing his dynamic and story-driven visual instincts. He also brings this sensibility to music videos, collaborating closely with artists to build cinematic, emotionally resonant visuals that elevate their music.
Carlos approaches every project with a humble, collaborative mindset. He believes cinematography is strongest when it serves the story, drawing inspiration from the idea that the best images are often the ones the audience doesn’t consciously notice. For him, each frame has a purpose—every shot is an opportunity to shape tone, evoke emotion, and support the director’s vision.
Professional, meticulous, and passionate, Carlos is committed to fostering openness and creativity on set. Above all, he strives to use the camera not just to capture images, but to connect with audiences and bring stories to life.
